Telemental Health
Telemental Health is the delivery of psychiatric/psychological assessments and treatments through video conferencing technology. This mode of delivering medical services is similar to in-person encounters involving the direct communication between the doctor and patient while meeting patients’ needs for readily-accessible and convenient mental health services. For some patients, this method of care may enhance feelings of security, privacy, and safety. Advances in secure video technology, screen resolution, and internet speed have also greatly enhanced the practice in recent years. Although Telemental Health removes the in-person interaction between the patient and doctor, it has demonstrated effectiveness in the accuracy of diagnoses, treatment, and quality of care. Research has found a high degree of satisfaction with this method of care in both patients and providers. While Telemental Health may be used for medication management and psychotherapy for a wide variety of conditions, certain situations may require in-office visits.
